Buena Vista River Park to Midland Railroad Bicycle Trail
This one of the best runs in the Buena Vista Area. Lots of variations, with good trails and roads, and super views of the Arkansas River Valley. Start at either end, our directions start from Buena Vista. You can reach the upper end trailhead by taking Hwy 284-24 up toward Trout Creek Pass, turn left on Cty Rd 315. The upper end of this run is several miles of wonderful railroad grade flat single track.
Trailhead Directions: Drive into Buena Vista, at the light, turn east (away from the big mountains) follow main street for about a mile. The road ends at the trailhead, and some athletic fields. Park here, cross the river on a super bridge and start running south along the river on the Whipple Trail. This trail will climb up and meet a nice dirt road (cty rd 304), turn right (south) on this follow the road for several miles. There are lots of interesting roads to explore, but keep on the main line. Look for a well marked single track, the Midland Railroad Bicycle Trail. Follow this to the obvious trailhead and parking lot. Turn around and follow the same route back.
