1st Annual Turret Colorado Run - October 1, 2006
Check out the photos from the 2nd Annual Run
On the first of October, about 16 runners enjoyed a unique run through Turret Colorado to Hecla Junction. The rund started at the intersection of County Road 175 and County Road 182. About 2/3 of the run was on dirt roads, and the rest of nice soft trails. Aside for a short 200 foot climb soon after the start, the entire run was downhill. Approximately 9 miles with 2000' elevation loss.
The run included a bonus hike in the town of Turret up to the famous swinging rock. This short hike helped keep the group together for the rest of the downhill run. The lower section of the run took the group by spectacular canyon rock formations by Railroad Gulch.
At the end of the run was a short, cool wade across the Arkansas River. Once the hard work was over, everyone enjoyed a nice potluck lunch at Hecla Junction. Thanks to Melissa, Jan, and Shawn for driving the shuttles that made this such an enjoyable run.
